Windows Phone App of the Day: 7-Eleven Locator

God, I love anything where I need to add “Slurpee” as a keyword, and I definitely could have used this app when I was in Taiwan last year. Whether you’re jonesing for a cigarette, Nature Valley bar, Rice Crispy Treat, 64-ounce portion of high fructose corn syrup, or the world’s best sugary and sippable frozen drink, SP Development’s 7-Eleven Locator app, released on Saturday, has you covered! So, go ahead. Live a little.

Pros

  • Free!
  • Automatically uses location services to find the nearest 7-Eleven
  • Does not store location information or provide information to 3rd parties (Uhh….thanks?)
  • Navigation services available using your phone’s maps feature
  • Privacy Controls
  • So simple, I don’t even need to tell you how to use it…but I will anyway…because Dave Cogen says so.

Cons

  • Directions may be incorrect or unavailable at times

How It Works

  • Download from the “Lifestyle” section of your Marketplace
  • Open from your App list
  • Authorize 7-Eleven Locator to access your location
  • Mileage to the nearest 7-Eleven locations will automatically load
  • Tap the screen to view directions to your nearest 7-Eleven location
  • Select “Allow” to let 7-Eleven locator access and use your location to provide accurate directions
  • Maps automatically opens and provides directions from your current location to the nearest 7-Eleven
  • If specified, manually select which 7-Eleven location you want to visit

Conclusion

I’m dying laughing right now. I can’t believe I’m reviewing this app. When I was in Taiwan last year, my co-worker and I spent literally two hours searching for a 7-Eleven, only to find out that there was one across the street from the apartments we were staying in, but of course we couldn’t see it because it was being blocked by a huge train. Either way, this is an exceedingly simple yet useful app if you ever find yourself desperately in need of cigarettes, toilet paper, or, in most states and countries, beer. Do it. You know you want to.
