Apple and Samsung Fail to Settle Before Trial, Battle Continues Over Patent Values
Executives from both Apple and Samsung continue to battle it out over patent values, making it hopeless for an amicable agreement to be reached out-of-court. According to a recent Reuters report, Samsung’s vice chairman Choi Gee-sung and mobile director Shin Jong-Kyun to San Francisco were locked in heated talks with Apple CEO Tim Cook in a last ditch attempt at settling matters before next week’s trial.
The San Jose, California federal court required both Samsung and Apple to take part in a mediation conference, but the possibility of a compromise looks highly unlikely at this point in the game. Both parties can not agree on patent values leaving them in stuck in their respective corners. Essentially, Apple views Samsung’s patents at a lower value, and Samsung is holding strong onto the higher value it places onto its patent portfolio. Surprise, surprise.
The formal trial is set to start next week, so buckle up your seat belts, this is going to be a bumpy ride.
