How to Install ClockworkMod Touch Recovery on the Canadian Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999V)

So you have rooted your device and installed ClockworkMod Recovery on your shiny new Galaxy S3.  Did you know that you can make things easier by flashing a touch-based recovery than sticking to the good ‘ole volume rocker/home button navigation?  If you answered no, read on to know how to get a touch-based recovery on your SGH-T999V.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  This works only for the SGH-T999V variant of the Samsung Galaxy S3; do not try it on any other version as you could end up bricking your device.

2.  You’ll need a device that is rooted and has CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery) installed; if you haven’t done this already, use our post on the same to help you.

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.  ClockworkMod Recovery Touch (Download the T-Mobile version of this for the Samsung Galaxy S3).

2.  Android Terminal Emulator (Installed via Google Play).

III.  Flashing ClockworkMod Touch Recovery

1.  Copy recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.7-d2tmo.img that you downloaded above the root of your SD card.

2.  Open up Android Terminal Emulator on your device.

3.  Run the following commands:

su

dd if=/sdcard/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.7-d2tmo.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery

4.  Reboot to recovery to test if you have the touch version of ClockworkMod Recovery (to access CWM, with the device powered down, press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons and let them go as you see the screen turn on.
