First Official Jelly Bean Update Hits the Samsung Galaxy S III in Poland, U.S. Users Still Waiting
Google’s next-gen OS, Android Jelly Bean 4.1, is now rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S III, in addition to 14 other Samsung smartphones and tablets. Samsung has been true to their promise that the Galaxy S III would receive the Jelly Bean update by October, as reports have come back that users have already started to see the update hit their device. Great news right? Well, here’s the catch- if you reside in the U.S., the wait for Jelly Bean could be longer than our friends abroad due to carrier delays. Samsung hasn’t released specific release dates for the Jelly Bean update, but we have learned a few things about the official build from users in Poland who are already gleefully enjoying the update. We’ve included some of the highlights for you below:
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update Highlights
- Faster and more responsive interface
- Expanded the notifications so you can now take action directly from the notification slider
- Improved home screen with automatically resizing widgets
- Includes Google Now, a smart location-based service that displays information cards depending on where you are and the time of the day
Samsung’s Customization
- Built-in blocking mode for incoming calls
- Added controls for alarms and LED indicators, for a period of time you designate
- Popup Play feature that allows you to watch a video on the phone’s screen while running other apps has also been upgraded to allow positioning anywhere on the screen, as well as re-sizing the player video
- Pause function added to the camera app, so you can stop and resume recording a continuous video clip
While Samsung U.S. users have to sit idly to get their hands on the update the company did announce an extended list of phones and tablets that are next in line for Android 4.1. Of course, no specific availability dates have been announced for these additional devices either.
According to the announcement, the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Chat, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Mini 2, and Galaxy S Duos will be upgraded to Android 41.
