How to Install TWRP Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon)

After T-Mobile and Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3, now is the turn for the Verizon variant of the device to get some custom recovery love, in the form of TWRP Recovery. It’s a great custom recovery that one must try on his device at least once a time as the recovery’s filled with lots of useful features you would never ever find in a stock recovery. These features include flashing custom ROMs, making nandroid backups and even wiping off your device without even starting it up, all options under one roof. So, in this guide, we’ll show you how you can install TWRP Recovery on your Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon) smartphone. Let’s get started:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon) procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.

2. Your device should have at least 60% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. TWRP Recovery Image (Download the latest version having .img as extension)

2. Terminal EmulatorQR Code (Google Play Link)

III. Installing TWRP Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon):

1. Download and place the Recovery Image onto your Desktop.

2. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

3. Copy the Recovery Image over to the root of your SD card.

4. Once copied, unplug your device from your PC.

5. Now download and install the Terminal Emulator app on your device using the link provided above.

6. Once installed, launch it from your App Drawer.

7. Type in following command into the app:

su

8. It’ll ask you for Superuser permission, just hit the Grant button.

9. Now issue the following command to flash the recovery on your device. Make sure to replace recoveryfilename.img with the actual name of the Recovery Image you downloaded.

dd if=/sdcard/recoveryfilename.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

10. Once it’s done, reboot your device.

11. And you’re all set!
