How to Stop Updates from Restarting your PC in Windows 8

Often times when you install an update on your Windows 8, it force restarts your PC, no matter whether you’ve saved your current work or not. There’s a simple workaround to stop updates from restarting your Windows 8 PC, so you can save your work and restart your PC whenever you want. Here’s how:

I. Stopping Updates from Restarting your PC in Windows 8:

1. Launch the Run utility by pressing Windows Logo+R keys together.

2. Type in gpedit.msc and it’ll open the Group Policy Editor window.

Type in gpedit.msc and hit ENTER

3. Head to following location in the Local Group Policy Editor:

Computer Configuraton>>Administrative Templates>>Windows Components>>Windows Update

4. Once there, find the following policy and double-click on it.

No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatica updates installations

Double-click on the option

5. Checkmark Enabled on the next screen and hit Apply.

6. You’re good to go!

Awesome! You’ve successfully disabled auto-restart on your Windows 8 PC. From now on, none of the updates will force restart your PC and you’ll be the one who choose when to reboot the PC!
