How to Add a Fifth Row to the iPhone/iPad Keyboard in iOS 7 (Video)

One of the things I loved about the Galaxy Note 3’s default keyboard is its extra row with numbers above the letters, thus eliminating the need to switch back and forth between the number and letter keyboards. Apple tweaker Hiraku wasn’t about to let Samsung users have all the functionality, so he made iKeywi, which adds a 5th row on top of your iPhone’s keyboard. iKeywi sets the 5th row as numbers by default, but you can customize each button to whatever you like.

iKeywi is $1.99 for the iPhone version, and $2.99 for the HD iPad version, and you’ll have to buy the tweak from Cydia itself before you can install it.

I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad

To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our Jailbreak How To’s section and pick the jailbreak for your version of iOS (currently at the time of writing this is 7.0.4). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.

II. Install iKeywi

1. Open Cydia (if it isn’t still open from the section above).

2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.

3. Type in iKeywi.

4. Tap on iKeywi when it shows up.

5.  Tap Purchase at the top right and follow the prompts to login and purchase using your preferred method.

6. Tap Close when you’ve paid.

7. Tap Install where Purchase used to be.

8. Tap Confirm on the top right corner.

9. Tap Reboot Springboard, which will restart your phone.

IV. Configure iKeywi

1. On your home screen, tap Settings.

2. Scroll down to iKeywi and tap it.

  • Customize Keys lets you change what each key on the 5th row types.
  • Customize Alt Keys lets you customize the keys that show up when you tap the Alt button with the arrow pointing upwards.
  • Key Height lets you adjust the size of the keys on the 5th row.
  • You don’t need to worry about Pinyin or Romaji options, they’ll have no effect.

V. Use iKeywi

1. Simply open any app that requires typing, and the 5th row will appear automatically.
