Amazon’s Kindle Fire Tablet Already Hit With Patent Lawsuit
Nothing like a patent lawsuit to make you feel right at home. Just two short weeks after introducing its low-priced Kindle Fire Tablet, Amazon has already been slapped with a lawsuit from patent licensing firm Acacia Research. Oddly enough, Acacia Research is company known for buying up other companies’ intellectual property and then licensing it out through a variety of subsidiaries. So, we can’t say we’re surprised that they jumped on the opportunity to drag Amazon into a patent war.
Acacia claims that the Kindle Fire infringes on several of its patents, including one that covers graphics on a touchscreen that respond when a user “writes” on said screen, and a second titled “System And Method For Displaying And Manipulating Multiple Calendars On A Personal Digital Assistant.”
Acacia is also involved with various pending patent lawsuits against Apple and other companies. Amazon has yet to comment on the pending lawsuit.
It is not the first time that Smart Technologies has been in the news for Patents reasons.The company is owned by Acacia Research, which had filed lawsuits against many technology giants like Research in Motion, Apple, etc.
