“No Plans” for Dedicated Google Retail Stores According to Andy Rubin
Sorry Android fans it looks like your hopes of having dedicated Google retail stores sprinkled around the nation have been dashed for the time being. According to Andy Rubin, the head of Google’s Android business, there’s no need to go the Apple route and explore dedicated Google retail stores for the time being. Rubin doesn’t think that the Nexus line is quite at the level that would warrant a store of its own and believes that consumers don’t need a traditional retail store to get the information they need in order to make a purchase. Here’s what Rubin had to say in his own words:
“A few years ago, consumers needed to touch and feel devices, but these days they can often get the information they need to make a purchase decision by talking to friends and reading reviews,” he told reporters. “They don’t have to go in the store and feel it anymore.”
Who knows, maybe Google is waiting to get a few more products under its massive belt, like Google Glass and the recently announced Chromebook Pixel Notebook, before it starts outfitting bricks and mortar stores. Until then, we’ll simply continue to shop the way Google intended us to…in our plaid pajamas from the comfort of our couch.
