Apple’s Final Farewell to Steve Jobs: Memorial Ceremony Held Today
It was a sad day filled with nostalgia as Apple remembered and honored Steve Jobs in a corporate memorial event hosted today at its Cupertino headquarters. As expected throngs of people came out to say their last farewell to Jobs. Nearby buildings were draped with banners displaying images of Jobs during memorable milestones in his now infamous career.
Reportedly, Tim Cook, Bill Campbell and Al Gore all spoke at the ceremony, while music was performed by Norah Jones and Coldplay. The memorial was closed by the classic Randy Newman song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” which is the theme song from the Pixar movie Toy Story. Jobs used to run the Pixar studio and then leveraged his position on the board to ensure that Disney/Pixar content would forever have a place in iTunes and Apple promotions.
Apple Stores were closed for three hours today in parallel with the event. The corporate memorial comes a little over a week after a small private funeral was held for family and close friends. Jobs died on Oct 5.
