ASUS Looking to Break Into US Smartphone Market In 2014

In a recent interview to All Things D, ASUS chairman Jonney Shih stated that his company has been working diligently on creating relationships with wireless retailers and carriers with the hope of seeing success in the crowded US smartphone market. He continued to say that while a 2013 launch is looking unlikely 2014 looks to be more reasonable. Shih seemed comfortable taking his time with this venture and doesn’t want to rush his company’s debut into the US market.

While the Taiwanese manufacturer has seen massive success in the computer niche, the US smartphone market could prove to be their biggest challenge to date. Even the likes of Sony and LG have seen their fair share of industry obstacles stateside.

Asus is most popular for their hybrid devices like the Padfone, which is an Android smartphone that can dock into a larger screen with a bigger battery capacity transforming the device into a tablet. Also in the same arena is the Asus Fonepad which is a 7-inch slab that can make phone calls.

Shih is pleased with how other markets are using their hybrid phablet devices but sees something “even more revolutionary” for a US launch.
