BBM Music Launches In Beta As Blackberry’s New Cloud Music Service
Research In Motion (Blackberry) has quietly launched its first cloud music service in beta form today. The service dubbed, BBM Music, will limit users to 50 of their own songs. In order for a user to expand their music library they will have to connect with other BBM friends who have also registered for the music service, in turn gaining access to their music selection. In an unusual fashion, Blackberry hopes to foster users of the service to search and discover other types of music they might not usually be exposed to.
The actual music app allows users to see a news feed of sorts, which display when their BBM friends adds a song, creates a playlist, or starts sharing with another user. Tunes can cached for offline listening and if a user decides the service isn’t their cup of tea Blackberry provides the option to purchase the music via Amazon MP3 (US users).
BBM Music launched today in a closed beta in the US, Canada, and the UK. Users who like the service can expect to pay a $5 monthly fee once the beta period has ended.
