CES 2012: Sony reveals the Xperia S – a dual-cored Android phone with 12MP camera
Previously known only by its codename – Nozomi – the Xperia S (LT26i) has one major change compared to the ones released until now. This will be the first device to be released under just the “Sony” name instead of Sony-Ericsson, signifying that the giant corporation has indeed absorbed the mobile manufacturing side of things from Ericsson. Made official at the CES this year, the device has features that seem current enough for the present market and include:
- 4.3-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720
- 1.5GHz dual-core processor with a MSM8260 chipset
- 12 megapixel camera with Sony Exmor R sensor and 1080p video recording capabilities
- 32GB internal memory
- Android Gingerbread 2.3 with an upgrade to Android 4.0 in the second half of 2012
The device will become available in the second quarter of 2012, so it’s only a few short months before buyers will be able to upgrade to Ice-Cream Sandwich if Sony keeps its word – as for its price, we’ll as we near the promised period of release.
