How To Control Your Galaxy Device Without Touching the Screen (Air Gesture)

Air gesture is a feature that registers hand motions to perform the following actions without touching your Galaxy device’s screen:

  • Flick through photos in Gallery.
  • Scroll up and down emails in Email.
  • Pick up calls (on speakerphone by default), check notifications and changing songs without waking your Galaxy device.
  • Control songs from Music.
  • Move between pages in S Notes

This might seem gimmicky as using your finger/thumb to perform those actions is easy and natural, how could Air gestures possibly make it easier? Truth is, it’s just another way to do these things, but the hand motions are very intuitive and easy to pick up. I especially like Air gestures when using my Galaxy device at fast food restaurants as I can read emails without scrolling with greasy fingers and leaving streaks all over the screen.

You should make the gestures around the front-facing camera at the top of the device since that is where the sensor is located. Below, I show you how to turn on Air gesture, what each gesture does, how to use them, and how to turn it off.

I. Turn On Air Gesture

1. Swipe down from the the top of the screen to pull down the notifications menu.

There’s something really satisfying about waving your hands rather than tapping the screen to make things happen. Air gesture is pretty reliable and you won’t even realize your doing it until someone notices and says “that’s cool!”
