Facebook Music Streaming with Spotify, MOG, and Rdio Coming Soon?
According to Mashable, Facebook has big plans to unveil a new music streaming service at their F8 Developers Conference, scheduled to take place September 22, 2011. The social networking giant already has its toes dipped into online gaming and advertising, and now apparently music too.
Facebook wouldn’t actually host any content, but instead would provide access to its more than three-quarters of a billion users. Third-party music streaming services would then deliver content via their servers to your Facebook page. So which third-party services might be involved?
It seems as though Facebook would rely on pre-established platforms like Spotify, Rdio, and MOG. Rdio is expected to bring its ad-free music subscription knowledge to the project, while MOG recently hinted at their involvement with the Facebook project to Business Insider stating,
“MOG already has a strong relationship with Facebook, it uses Facebook’s social graph to help subscribers discover new artists based on those their friends already ‘like’ on Facebook.”
Facebook has yet to confirm any details surrounding an upcoming music streaming service. Regardless, we’ll mark our calendars for the end of September, and keep our fingers crossed the service will be compatible with all mobile devices.
