Free Android apps now number more than that of iOS
If this isn’t a sign of Droid supremacy, we really don’t know what is. According to Distimo, a company with a roving eye on applications across platforms, and its recently released findings, the Android Market currently has 134,000 compared to the Apple iPhone’s most recent count of 121,000 – a huge leap for the former if the age of both platforms is considered. The Apple store still has a strong foothold in terms of total apps currently available for its iOS ecosystem (with 333,000 odd apps), but Distimo says this may not last for long as the app count on Android might as well reach and surpass that figure very soon.
As to the other platforms, while the BlackBerry App World is said to sweep past the dying Ovi Store soon, WP7 Marketplace is also anticipated to do the same in a few more months.
So, what do you guys think? Is Android going to rule the mobile world with its deluge of apps for every conceivable aspect of its OS or is Apple’s iOS playing up the quality, allowing fewer but far more utile content? The Comments section awaits.
in my opinion, apple app store will always reign supreme – for the next few years anyhow, as they not only filter the apps removing spam ect, but they have, by far, the best handset, with the best user interface, with the best infrastructure. the ony time in which the rest of the smartphones will surpass that of the ios is when they develop better handsets, app stores and infrastructures.
