Fusion Garage Unveils Grid 10 Tablet and Grid 4 Smartphone, Both Set To Run On New Grid OS
Fusion Garage took the wraps off two new devices today after much speculation and a long running teaser campaign. The company’s director, Chandra Rathakrishnan, personally took stage today at a press event to introduce the new Grid 10 tablet and the Grid 4 smartphone.
The Grid 10 tablet will run on the new Grid OS, which is based on the Android kernel. The device boasts a 10-inch display with the highest resolution of any other tablet currently on the market, at 1366 x 768. Additional hardware includes a Nvidia Tegra 2 chip, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing webcam, 16GB of storage, Bluetooth 2.1, and a microSD slot.
The Grid 10 tablet will house the company’s Grid Shop, which will be an app store unique to Fusion Garage, said to be taking applications in the near future. The Grid Shop app store will also support Android apps. The tablet will be priced at $499 for the WiFi-only version and $599 for a WiFi / 3G model. Both versions are available for pre-order and will begin shipping on September 15th.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one press event, Fusion Garage wrapped up the festivities with the introduction of their Grid 4 smartphone, a handset also running on their Grid OS. The device sports a Qualcomm dual-core processor, 16GB of memory, an 800 x 480 resolution, a 0.3 megapixel front facing camera, and a five megapixel rear facing camera equipped with autofocus.
The Grid 4 smartphone is expected to be priced at $399 unlocked. Consumers can start looking for it in Q4 alongside additional carrier information at that time.
