Galaxy S II update announced, brings bigger icons and a FOTA widget
Samsung has recently announced a firmware update for its currently reigning flagship phone, the Galaxy S II. Though no specific date have been revealed, the update will bring two new features, which seem more related to the TouchWiz UI than the underlying Android OS itself. After updating, users will see icons 30% bigger than previously – this will definitely eat into the available screen real estate on the 4.3-inch display, but for some users, this might be a welcome addition – it is unclear if this feature can be toggled on/off for those who don’t like though.
The other new feature will be a widget which will allow direct access to OTA firmware updates menu. To us, this seems redundant since the Galaxy S II will automatically alert us to any updates in waiting, though those who check for updates incessantly might find this useful.
We’ll let you know when the update will actually start rolling out, so stay tuned.
