Google In Talks With WhatsApp for Possible $1 Billion Acquisition?
Google’s not so secret unified chat platform, dubbed “Babel” has had a hard time staying out of the spotlight lately. Now, we’re catching wind of what might be Google’s second attempt this year at keeping something secret in regards to their talks with popular cross-platform mobile chat app, WhatsApp.
According to a new report by Digital Trends, Google and WhatsApp have already been in talks for approximately 5 weeks now with a rumored bid at $1 billion. WhatsApp is said to be playing hardball with the tech giant and lobbying for a higher acquisition price. We’re hoping $1 billion should seal the deal.
WhatsApp has seen a large amount of success on the Android platform, with over 100 million downloads and being named as one of Google Play’s “Top Developers”. So, the acquisition would make sense to fortify Google’s upcoming unified chat platform. The real question becomes if Google can close the deal.
