How to Customize the Notification Light on the HTC One (M8)

Notification lights on smartphones are necessary, but can be a bit annoying, too. More than bothersome, they can also be confusing. Why is it blinking now?! Luckily, you can change which notifications use the blinking light on your HTC One (M8).

Rather than suffer through the mystery of notification lights blinking and pulsing, we’ve got a quick and easy method for customizing yours. With a few minutes of work on your part, notifications will be a bit richer, and much more contextual. Here’s how to do it:

1. Click “Settings” from the quick-launch menu (by pulling down the notification shade — it’s on the top right).

2. Scroll down and select “Display & Gestures” under the “Device” category.

3. Select “Notification Light”, which is near the top of that sub-menu.

4. De-select the functions you don’t want accessing your notification light. Remember that when your screen is dormant, you won’t be notified of these services. Choose wisely!

Those you leave selected will utilize the notification light, and those that you don’t have selected — well, they won’t! This is a great way to completely silence your notification light, too, if that’s your thing (by unchecking them all).

Again, keep in mind that without notifications set to blink, you won’t get alerts. If you’re an email or text messaging junkie, staying timely might be tough without a blinking LED. Still, it’s a great way to alleviate annoying blinking lights just for a Crate & Barrel email.

    1. Not from HTC. However if you download a customizable missed call reminder/message alert app like Prof Reminder by DO Software, you’ll have that option plus a lot more including sounds.
