How to Enable Face Unlock on your Nexus S Smartphone

Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich version brought a new feature known as Face Unlock. The feature is present in the ICS, though there’s a phone missing this new thing, Nexus S. If you have a Nexus S smartphone and want to have the Face Unlock feature in it, then here’s a guide for you to get this feature on your phone.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have unlocked bootloader, rooted and custom recovery installed on your Nexus S smartphone. Please head to our how to root Nexus S procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.

2. Make sure that your phone runs on the ICS version of Android. Go to Settings>>About Phone>>Firmware Version to confirm it.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the Face Unlock file from here.

III. Enabling Face Unlock on your Nexus S:

1. Download and place the Face Unlock file onto your Desktop.

2. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Transfer the Face Unlock file to your phone’s SD card root folder.

4. After the file transfer has been completed, disconnect your phone from the PC.

5. Turn OFF your phone using the Power key.

6. Boot your phone into the custom recovery mode. Just press and hold Volume UP+Power keys together for a few seconds and you will enter the recovery mode.

7. From the options provided by recovery, choose install zip from sdcard option.

8. Choose choose zip from sdcard option.

9. Navigate to the file you transferred to your phone in Step-3 and select it for flashing.

10. Once you are done with the flashing, go back to the main menu of the recovery and choose reboot system now.

Your phone will reboot and when it boots up, you will be able to use the Face Unlock feature which wasn’t present before on your phone.
