How to Extend the iPhone’s Battery Life

Oh, the iPhone battery.

Like a fabled, elusive white whale, it seems like a satisfactory iPhone battery life seems unattainable. Even as the usability of our favorite Apple devices gets improved with each update to its operating software, it seems that battery life takes an equally devastating blow. It’s hard to keep up with how to save iPhone battery life, but we are very glad to help! So, if you’ve got a new iPhone for the holidays and have been using it ad nauseam and now need a way out, why don’t you put your phone on a charger for a second while you read some of our tips below on how to extend iPhone’s battery life – some you may have heard of and, hopefully, some not so obvious tricks, too.

Extend the iPhone’s Battery Life

For starters, when it comes to the quickest way to easily help out your battery situation – the first thing I’d recommend is so snappy a solution it only requires a couple swipes and taps.

The simplest fix is to access your Control Center where you have easy access to the bulk of your most important settings –including your wireless and Bluetooth access, your volume and brightness controls, as well as your airplane mode controls.

Manually Set the Brightness

The easiest thing to help save a ton of battery life is adjusting the display’s brightness –which you can do from the Control Center by dragging the slider next to the sun symbol to the left. By swiping that as far down as you can stand, you’ll be putting your brightness to the minimum power needed (and it’s one of the biggest draws on your battery). This saves your iPhone from expending too much unnecessary energy just shine bright like a diamond.

Disable Bluetooth and Wifi

Secondly, you’ll want to see if your wireless or Bluetooth access is on. If it is – is it necessary right this minute? A lot of the time, we’ll forget to turn our wireless or Bluetooth off when not using them. When you leave your wireless or Bluetooth on, your phone will be constantly in the hunt for networks or other devices, even if you have no interest in using them –which, of course, drains battery. To turn these off, tap on their respective icons from within the Control Center so they are no longer highlighted.

Use Airplane Mode

Thirdly, of course, you could turn your phone on airplane mode. Now this is probably a bit too extreme to do most of the time (since it does essentially disable the device), but in a bind, it can help. This action will turn off all of your iPhone’s network access thus elongating your phone’s battery life, but rendering your phone pretty useless. The use case here would be more for emergencies when you need enough power to make that last phone call later, but right now can sacrifice the phone in exchange for having more power later on when needed.

Delve into the Settings

Other, less quick but equally efficient ways on how to extend iPhone battery life involve accessing your iPhone’s settings as pictured above.  This area of your phone will allow you to get a little more of a detailed insight as well as a few more detailed options in relation to your battery.

By tapping your Display & Brightness, you’ll be able to adjust your brightness like in the Control Center, but the difference here is you can also turn off your auto-brightness, which will make sure that any brightness level you set will stay as such and won’t creep it’s way back up to a higher level later. Tap your Auto-Brightness setting and make sure the switch is set to off.

Also by going to your General Settings and then tapping Usage, you can see which apps are taking up most of your phone’s battery life by going to Battery Usage as pictured below:

By seeing your Battery Usage, you will have a better understanding of how your phone use directly affects your battery life. The higher percentage seen next to the app, the more harmful the app is to your battery. So, read up, and take it as a lesson in priorities. If you’re trying to save your battery life, cut down the use of those apps and close it when you’re not using it.

Aside from these tactics, you can always invest in a charging case so that you can never go lifeless. Or, perhaps, you can try to use an iPad charger, which are known to charge the newer iPhone 6 models faster than their own chargers do…
