How to Overclock the Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T)
So you have a rooted Motorola Atrix 4G and want to overclock it to get better performance off it? No problem, this guide should help you do that. Overclocking helps improve the performance of the device and an overclocking kernel is available for the Atrix 4G smartphone. Here’s how you can overclock your Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T) smartphone:
I. Before You Begin:
1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T) procedure first and root your device.
2. You must have CWM Recovery installed on your device. Follow our guide on the same to do that.
II. Make a Backup:
1. Head over to the Google Play and download and install the Quick Boot app on your device.
2. Once the app’s been installed, open it from your App Drawer.
3. Hit Recovery option in the app and your device will reboot into the Recovery mode.
4. Once there, select backup and restore followed by backup.
5. It’ll backup your entire firmware and save it on your device.
6. You’re done!
III. Downloading Required Files:
1. Atrix Kernel (Download the appropriate kernel from the first post)
IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T):
1. Download and place the Kernel zip onto your Desktop.
2. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.
3. Copy the Kernel zip over to the root of your SD card.
4. Once it’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
5. Launch the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.
6. Hit Recovery option in the app and your device should reboot into the Recovery mode.
7. Once there, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.
8. Choose the Kernel zip to be flashed on your device.
9. It should begin flashing the zip on your device.
10. Once the zip has been flashed, reboot your device.
11. You’re done!
V. Overclocking the Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T):
1. Download either of these apps on your device:
2. Once the app has been installed, open it from your App Drawer.
3. Now drag the CPU clock slider in the right-direction until you reach your desired overclock speed. Make sure to not choose the save on boot option.
4. Once you find your device to be stable on a specific speed, close the app.
5. You’re all done!
Brilliant! Your device’s been overclocked and you should be able to notice changes in the performance of your device!
VI. Reverting Back to the Stock Kernel (Optional):
1. Launch the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.
2. Hit Recovery option in the app and your device will reboot into the Recovery mode.
3. Once inside Recovery, select backup and restore followed by restore.
4. Choose the most recent backup you have and it’ll start restoring the backup.
5. Once it’s done, reboot your device.
6. You’re all done!
Great! You’re now back to the stock kernel with no overclocking at all!
