How to Root the Sony Tablet S

Sony Tablet S is the first tablet computer by Sony, boasting a dual-core processor with Android Honeycomb preinstalled on it. If you have been looking for a way to root this tablet, then you are at the right place. The following guide shows you how you can achieve root access on your Sony Tablet S in order to install the Root-only apps.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have followed the procedure given here.

2. You must have ADB installed on your PC. Learn how to setup ADB.

3. You will void your tablet’s warranty if you root it. However, you can get back the warranty in future by either applying stock firmware or unrooting your tablet.

4. Make sure your tablet has at least 60% of battery life left to ensure a smoother rooting process.

5. You must be running on the Honeycomb version of Android.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the Rooting Package from here.

III. Rooting Sony Tablet S:

1. Put the Rooting Package ZIP archive onto your Desktop for easy access.

2. Extract files from it to your Desktop using any file extraction software, like WinRAR.

3. Connect your tablet to your PC using the USB cable. (Your PC will recognize your device only if you have followed the guide given in the first section of this procedure)

4. While your tablet is connected to your PC, launch the run.bat file which you got from the ZIP archive.

5. It will start rooting your tablet and when it has done doing so, you will get a message on your screen.

  1. Your introduction is misleading – as stated in the XDA thread, this exploit only works on Honeycomb, not on ICS.
