How to Root the Acer Stream
Acer Stream, also known as Acer Liquid Stream, is an Android smartphone launched back in the year 2010 and runs the Android 2.1 Eclair as its operating system. Eventually, the device got an update to Android 2.2 Froyo and that was the only update it got ever since it was launched. If you look at the hardware side, it’s got a 1GHz processor backed by 512MB of RAM, has a 3.7″ inch screen and a 5MP camera on the back. If you happen to own this device and want to unlock its true potential, then you’ll want to root your device. Rooting will open-up doors for the root-only apps and eventually a custom recovery. Here’s how you can root your Acer Stream smartphone.
I. Before You Begin:
1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. Make sure your device has at least 50% of battery life left.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. z4Root App (Download link’s available in the first post)
III. Rooting the Acer Stream:
1. Download and place the z4Root APK file onto your Desktop.
2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
3. Copy the z4Root APK over to the root of your SD card.
4. Once it’s been copied, unplug your device from your PC.
5. On your device, head to Menu>>Settings>>Applications and enable the Unknown sources option.
6. Enable the USB debugging option as well by heading to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development.
7. Open the File Manager app on your device and install the APK you copied earlier to your device.
8. Once installed, launch it from your App Drawer.
9. Tap Root button in the app and it’ll root your device.
10. Once your device’s been rooted, head over to Google Play and install the Busybox app.
11. You’re done!
Brilliant! Your device has been successfully rooted and you should be able to find the Superuser app in your App Drawer. Enjoy!
IV. Flash a Custom Recovery Image (Optional):
1. If you would like to flash a custom recovery image in order to flash custom ROMs, head to the How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image on the Acer Stream to learn how to do that.
