How to Root the Google Chromecast
No matter what Android device you buy, you can always have root-access on it. Some of the odd Android devices that we’ve seen lately, the Samsung Galaxy Camera and the Google Chromecast, both have been rooted successfully by the devs. If you just picked-up this new invention of Google, you might want to root it to get the most out of it. So here goes our guide on how you can root your Chromecast and enjoy the custom goodness on it:
I. Before You Begin:
1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. You must have a Powered Micro USB OTG Cable and a USB Flash Drive with at least 128MB of storage capacity.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. Exploit Package (Download link’s given in the Bootloader Exploit Package section)
2. DD
III. Rooting the Google Chromecast:
1. Download and place both the archives on your Desktop.
2. Extract files from both the archives over to your Desktop.
3. Plug in your USB Flash Drive to your PC.
4. Launch a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. To do so, simply hold down the Shift button and right-click anywhere on your Desktop and choose Open command window here.
5. Type in following command into the Command Prompt Window:
dd if=gtvhacker-chromecast.bin of=/dev/sdX bs=1024
6. Plug your USB Flash Drive into one end of the USB OTG cable.
7. Plug the other end into your Google Chromecast device.
8. Press and hold the button on the Chromecast while plugging-it to the Power cord.
9. Your device will now do the rest of the job to gain root-access.
10. And you’re rooted now!
Congratulations! Your Google Chromecast has been successfully rooted and you’re all ready to enjoy the root love on your device!
If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.
Didnt seem to work for me, every other guide I have read requires the “Teensy 2.0” device for this to work
