How to Root the Karbonn Mobile A9

The Karbonn Mobile A9 is a budget-friendly device that is primarily available in India and with its low price, the device also sports some low to mid-range specs like a 1GHz processor, 3.9-inch touchscreen display, a 5MP camera.  The biggest letdown of course would be the OS running on it – Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread – which is many iterations older than the currently available Android version.  The remedy to this you ask?  Root, install ClockworkMod Recovery and hope that someone will develop a custom
ROM based on newer firmware versions.  For now though, rooting it will be a good start and we’ll show you how to do that in the post below.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Back up everything you care about in your device.

2.  Charge your device to 75% or more to prevent unwanted shutdowns during the procedure.

II.  Necessary Downloads

III.  Rooting the Karbonn Mobile A9

1.  Boot your device into fastboot mode and connect it to your Windows PC.  To enable fastboot mode, with the device off, hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until you see a green screen.  If there are drivers being installed at this point, wait for them to finish installing.

2.  Extract the Karbonn A9 Root tools by Fonehacker.7z file you downloaded above to a folder on your desktop.

3.  From the extracted folder, double-click on ROOT.bat to begin the rooting process.

4.  Once the process is done, pull the battery out of your device, put it back in and reboot to recovery mode.  To enter recovery mode, with the device off, hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until you first see a green screen and then a red screen at which point you let go of both the buttons.

5.  Press the Home soft key on the front of your device.

6.  Reboot your device.

And you are rooted!  To confirm, look for the Superuser app in your app drawer or install Root Checker from the Play Store.
