How To: Root the Motorola Droid X

I. Before You Begin

1. This will root your device so you can use root required applications (like WiFi Tether etc). This will NOT allow you to flash custom ROMs, yet…

II. Root the Phone

1. Download the Root .zip file

DroidXRoot.zip

2. On your phone, go to Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging > and make sure it is checked ON.

3. Plug your phone in to the computer via USB and select Charge Only when it pops up on the phone’s screen.

4. Unzip the DroidXRoot.zip file and extract it’s content somewhere on the computer.

5. Right click the DroidRootX.exe file and select Run As Administrator (if using XP just double click it)

6. Click the Root Me button and wait for it to finish. Enjoy!

  1. I’m currently running Android Version 2.2.1 on my Droid X, could this be hindering my ability to root my with this method? I always get a failed root with ever attempt. Also, out of curiosity, what does the bluetooth have to do with the rooting process?

    Thnx
