How to Root the Samsung Continuum

Samsung smartphones have been lucky in terms of getting root methods and then loads of custom development, we often see them coming directly from the XDA Forums. The Samsung Continuum is one of those lucky phones having a one-click root method, so you won’t be needing to issue any commands to root your device. All you will have to do is just hit a single button and your device will be rooted, it’s that simple. Follow the following guide and you will be rooted in no time.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You’re gonna void the warranty of your device by rooting it. However, unrooting will help you reinstate the warranty of your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. This works on Windows based PCs only.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. SuperOneClick (It’s attached in the first post)

III. Rooting the Samsung Continuum:

1. Place the SuperOneClick archive on the Desktop of your PC.

2. Unzip files from the archive to your Desktop.

3. Enable the USB debugging option on your device by going to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.

4. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

5. Launch the SuperOneClick by double-clicking on its executable file available on your Desktop.

6. Hit Root button in the app and it’ll begin rooting your device.

7. Once it’s done, reboot your device.

8. And you’re rooted now!

Awesome! Your device has successfully been rooted. You should find the Superuser app installed in your App Drawer and that confirms that you do have root access on your device!

IV. Flash a Custom Recovery Image (Optional):

1. If you would like to flash a custom recovery image in order to flash custom ROMs, head to the How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image on the Samsung Continuum to learn how to do that.

    1. That probably means you lack the required drivers. Simply head to your manufacturer’s website, download and install the latest drivers on your PC and then re-try the procedure and it should work fine then.

      Thanks!

  1. So what exactly does rooting do, for this phone? I’m new to all of this. I’ve got a Continuum that was from verizon, just trying to turn it into a WIFI based app/mp3/web connection for my daughter. Right now it’s limited as there is no data connection and it’s required by the phone so it’s a constant dev password workaround. Is rooting what I need to do?

      1. great thanks! In this statement, what does OTA mean? “Ability to upgrade your operating system version without having to wait for an OTA”

        1. Hi,

OTA stands for Over The Air updates. These are the software updates that the manufacturers send to your device, and you can accept and install them on your device.

If you think your update’s been delayed, you can just root your device, flash a custom recovery on it, and install the whole stock firmware that contains that OTA update.

          Hope this helps!
