How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile)
Maybe you just bought yourself a Samsung Galaxy Light from T-Mobile? Maybe you want to enjoy more on your device than what you do now? This guide should help you root your Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile) to let the root-only apps and custom ROMs in. Here’s how:
Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device. Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.
Once you have root access on your Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile), you’ll be able to:
- Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
- Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
- Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
- Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
- Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
- Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

I. Before You Begin
1. This’ll void the warranty of your device. We won’t be held responsible if you end-up bricking or damaging your device. Do it at your own risk.
2. This should flash a custom recovery as well.
3. This only works on Windows based PCs.
4. You should’ve appropriate drivers installed on your PC. If you haven’t, you can download and install the latest drivers from here.
II. Downloading Required Files
1. Download Odin and save it to your desktop.
2. Download TWRP Recovery and save it to your desktop.
TWRP Recovery (Download link’s given in the second post)
3. Download SuperSU .zip and save it to your desktop.
III. Rooting the Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile)
1. Extract files from Odin to your desktop by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.
2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
3. Copy SuperSU .zip from your desktop over to the root of your SD card. It’s the topmost folder on your SD card.
4. When it’s copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
5. Double-click on Odin executable and it’ll launch.
6. Click on PDA and select TWRP Recovery available on your desktop.
7. Uncheck Repartition and Auto Reboot if they’re already checked in the Odin.
8. Turn OFF your device.
9. Turn it back on by holding down Volume DOWN, Home, and Power buttons together.
10. Press Volume UP and you should be in Download mode.
11. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.
12. Hit Start in the Odin and it’ll start flashing the TWRP Recovery on your device.
13. When the recovery’s flashed, pull the battery out of your device.
14. Put the battery back in your device and hold down Volume UP, Home, and Power buttons together.
15. Your device should reboot into TWRP Recovery mode.
16. Tap on Install.
17. Select SuperSU .zip file to be flashed on your device.
18. Tap on Swipe to Confirm Flash.
19. It should begin flashing the selected zip file on your device.
20. When the flashing’s done, tap on Reboot followed by System.

The device didn’t reboot into twrp recovery mode when i rebooted in download mode. Any tips?
That’s great! We’re glad we could help you!
Hello, i need help
On step 14 i did what it said: hold down Volume UP, Home, and Power buttons together.
but my device never took me to the TWRP Recovery mode.
Pull the battery out of your device, put it back in after a couple of seconds, hold down the key combination, and you should be good to go.
Hope it helps!
Took me 3 tries but finally got it!! Thanks.
Great! Glad you finally did it!!
i dont understand step 3
It says to copy the SuperSU .zip file that you have downloaded on your desktop over to your SD card (root folder is nothing but the main directory on your SD card that you see when you open your File Manager).
Hope it helps!
I got all the way to step 12 with no obvious problems, and than when I pressed start, it just said ” All threads completed. (success 0 / failed 0)” I’m not sure what it means, but my phone isn’t changing from the downloading screen.
It seems the tool couldn’t flash the file on your device. What I suggest you to do is right-click on Odin executable and select Run as administrator. It should do the trick.
Thanks!
I did what you said, and I got the same result, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but I think it’s something with the TWRP Recovery file
Then you might want to find another recovery image, CWM Recovery, for example, which you can then flash on your device and gain root.
Got it. worked like a charm. Tyler, I had that too, nothing is happening on Odin. But i noticed that ID:COM was blank. That first box under that should turn into yellow IF the phone is detected by the PC. if not, remove USB cable and plug back in. Then boom. worked!! Thanks!!
Hi Reece,
That’s great! We’re glad it worked for you!
Thanks!
Wait, it says that the download link for TWRP Recovery is in the second post? What do you mean? Where?
Click on TWRP Recovery link and you’ll be taken to a forum thread. Just look for second post there and you’ll find the download links.
Hope this helps!
I did this a while ago now I can’t update my phone.. Can anybody please help me.
Search our site for an Unroot procedure for your device, do it, and you’ll be back to stock firmware.
You’ll then be able to update your device. Thanks!
I’ve got a brand new Galaxy Light and can’t seem to get this to work. I get as far as loading TWRP but when I try to install SuperSU I get the error “E:Unable to mount ‘/preload'”. Any ideas?
I did all the steps and nothing failed, but when I went to go on root checker, it said that I haven’t rooted yet. :l
Will this procedure work for 4.4.2.? If so, are there any updates to the procedure for rooting 4.4.2.?
Everything goes well for me up until step 17. SuperSU doesn’t show, and I made sure it was copied to the root of my SD card. Please help!
Ok Im stuck on steps 14 & 15
14. Put the battery back in your device and hold down Volume UP, Home, and Power buttons together.
