How to Root the Sony Xperia SP

While we may have qualms about its smallish 4.6inch display, the Sony Xperia SP is still a well-rounded, mid-range device with a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard memory, and an 8MP camera.  The device could use something else though, and rooting is the way to go if this is what you want.  Read on then if you want to root your Sony Xperia SP

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Back up all important data on the device before you start.

2.  Charge the device to 75% or more before you begin.

3.  Make sure that you are running firmware version 12.0.A.1.284 (on model C5302) or 12.0.A.1.211/257 (on models C5302/3/6); do not try this on any other firmware version as you may end up bricking your device!

4.  This procedure should work on both locked and unlocked bootloaders.

II.  Necessary Downloads

DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit.zip [Link available in this post under the Download Links section]

III.  Rooting the Sony Xperia SP

1.  Enable USB debugging on your device.  To do this, go to Settings > Development and tick the USB debugging checkbox.

2.  Enable installation of apps from unknown sources.  To do this, go to Settings > Security and tick the Unknown sources checkbox.

3.  Connect your device to your Windows PC using a compatible microUSB cable.  If there are any drivers installed at this point, let them do so before you continue.

4.  Extract the DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit.zip file you downloaded above to a folder on your desktop.

5.  From the extracted folder, double-click on runme_win.bat to begin the rooting procedure.

6.  Once you have followed Steps #1 & 2 of this section, press any key to further the procedure.  The rooting procedure should now start.

7.  Wait for your device to reboot completely and exit the DooMLoRD program.

Once your device reboots, you should be completely rooted!
