How to Root the Verizon Droid Charge (I510) running Android 2.3.x (FP5)
Now that you have the required custom recovery, the next step is to root the Droid Charge to gain root access so you can customize your device the way your manufacturer didn’t want you to. Rooting is fairly harmless unless you really botch up the procedure and this guide should make it much more easier to do so (not the botching, but rooting).
I. Before You Begin
1. You will need to have ClockworkMod Recovery installed on your device for this procedure to work. Use our guide on how to do this to help you.
2. Charge your device to 75% or more before you begin.
3. Back up everything you feel is important just in case.
4. This procedure only works on the Droid Charge running stock Verizon FP5 (Android 2.3) firmware. Do not try this if you are running anything else.
II. Necessary Downloads
Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
III. Rooting the Samsung Droid Charge
1. Connect your device to your PC and copy Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip to your device.
2. Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. To do this,
i. Power down your device. ii. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons until you see the Samsung logo appear. iii. Release the Power button but continue holding the Home button until you get to CWM3. Use the Volume Up and Down buttons to navigate to and highlight Mounts and Storage, and press the Power button to select it.
4. Highlight and select Mount system.
5. Go back to the main menu.
6. Select Install zip from sdcard.
7. Highlight Choose zip from sdcard and select it with the Power button.
8. Navigate to the location of Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip on the next screen and select it.
9. Select Yes – Install Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip.
10. Go back to the main menu and select reboot system now to restart your device.
Once the device reboots, it should have root access and you will be able to run any root-requiring app you desire!

What would happen if I tried this on FP8 firmware?
Works just done
Works just fine
Great!
What about 2.3.6?
could you clarify: “iii. Release the Power button but continue holding the Home and Power button until you get to CWM” Either the power button is released or continued to be held… but it cannot be both. Is one of those supposed to be “home button?”
hello, Bryan, I have made changes to reflect the correct combination, check now!
help! it does not work on mine! samsung charge stock sch-i510 fp5. i put superuser on phone in root of ext sdcard. booted in cwm and the steps outlined are not what my phone offers. there is no storage and mounts choice. it has reboot phone, add update from sd, and a couple of others that seemed irrelevant to my needs. what do i need to do?
Reeci, that means you don’t have the ClockworkMod Recovery installed and are still on the stock recovery. Use the link in #1 of Section #1.
My device keeps saying
“Installing update…”
“Installation aborted.”
CWM is installed and every direction was followed. Is there something that I missed?
ive never rooted a phone before and dont know much about this subject. Is it as easy for someone like myself to do or should this be taken care of by someone that is knowledgeable in electronics and technology? is there anything that i need to know that you would assume a dummy would know(that i probably dont)? i know the phone can brick and am worried about this happening. Thank you for the time. And i have factory fp8 droid charge
same my model… if im do the root can i use OTG
