How to Scan Folders with Context Menu in Windows 8
Starting up an Antivirus program and setting it up to scan a specific folder is a tedious task and no user would like to do it that way. However, with Windows 8, you now have the power to scan any individual folder by just right-clicking on it and choosing the Scan option. The feature isn’t enabled by default, however, the guide below teaches how you can enable it and scan any specific folder with a couple clicks. Here’s how:
I. Before You Begin:
1. You must be logged-in as Administrator on your PC.
II. Downloading Required Files:
III. Scanning Folders with Context Menu in Windows 8:
1. Just download the file linked in the above section and place it on your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the archive over to your Desktop.
3. Double-click on theĀ AddWindowsDefenderToContextMenu.reg file you just extracted from the archive.
4. Hit Yes if any prompts appear on your screen.
5. Restart your PC.
6. You’re done!
Great! You’ll now see an option to Scan folders when you right-click on any folder. It doesn’t work for individual files, but choosing a whole folder should do the work.
If you want to remove the Scan option from context menu for any reason, just follow these steps:
IV. Removing the Scan Option from Context Menu:
1. Make sure that the files you extracted from the archive are still there on your Desktop.
2. Double-click on the file namedĀ RemoveWindowsDefenderFromContextMenu.reg available on your Desktop.
3. Hit Yes if any prompts appear on your screen.
4. Restart your PC.
5. And you’re done!
The Scan option’s been removed from the context menu and if you ever need to enable it, just follow the Section III.
