How to Unroot the HTC Desire S

Unrooting the HTC smartphones has always been easy, thanks to the RUU (ROM Update Utility) that lets you flash the stock firmware on your device without doing much geeky tasks and any novice user can easily unroot his or her HTC smartphone. In the following guide, we have covered how you can unroot the HTC Desire S smartphone. It should be useful for you if you rooted your phone and now want to go back to the stock ROM because you are going to the company shop for any phone related task. Here’s how you can do it.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.

2. You must have HTC Sync uninstalled on your PC.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Official RUU (Download link’s given in the first post)

2. Revert Back to Stock (It’s attached there in the first post)

3. Fastboot Drivers (Download link’s given in the first post)

III. Unrooting the HTC Desire S:

1. Download and place all three files onto your Desktop.

2. Install the Fastboot Drivers you just downloaded.

3. Extract files from the Revert Back to Stock archive to your Desktop.

4. Double-click the Android Flasher file to launch the flashing tool.

5. Enable USB debugging on your device by going to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.

6. In the Android Flasher tool, select your smartphone from the list.

7. Click on the Browse button given in the Bootloader section and navigate to the folder where you have extracted files from the Revert Back to Stock archive. Open up the FlashENGBOOT folder and select the file named engHBOOToverARX.img.

8. Turn OFF your device using the Power button.

9. Reboot your device into the Fastboot mode. To do that, press and hold Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

10. Select Fastboot from the Menu that appears on your screen.

11. Connect your device to the PC using the USB cable.

12. Now, in the Android Flasher Tool, tick-mark the box labeled I’m already in fastboot.

13. Hit the Flash! button to begin the process.

14. After the tool has finished its work, just reboot your device.

15. Keep your device connected to the PC and double-click the Official RUU file you downloaded earlier.

16. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

17. You phone should be unrooted.

Well done! You just unrooted your smartphone using the simple procedure described above. The phone is now at the factory state and from now on, you can get the official updates from your manufacturer.

  1. i am not able to run the Android Flasher tool exe file. I just dont run at all and shows an error “search a solution on internet or close programme”
    What am I supposed to do?
