How to Unroot the LG G4 (All Variants)
Eventually, unrooting is necessary. Whether you’re sick of flashing ROMs on your phone or sending it in for warranty, unrooting the LG G4 will get it back to stock –the way it came out of the box when you bought it.
To unroot the LG G4, we’ll be flashing the stock firmware (ROM) from LG using their own firmware flashing tool (so you know its legit). Once you grab the firmware for your particular version of the G4, you can download the flashing tool, plug your phone in, select the firmware and let it do its thing.
I. Before You Begin
1. You should have rooted your LG G4 using the procedure given here or here or here.
2. You must have a Windows based PC to do this procedure.
3. Since this will flash the stock ROM and wipe off the data stored on your device, you might want to make a backup of your device before going ahead.
4. This should work for the international, T-Mobile, and AT&T variants of the device.
5. Ensure that LG USB drivers are installed on your PC. If they aren’t, please download and install them first.

You should now be unrooted, running the stock ROM and ready to go. Let us know if this worked for you in the comments below!
I can’t unroot my A&TT G4. I downloaded the files and when I follow the steps, it gets stuck at 60% and says the phone is disconnected from the PC and won’t finish the process. I’ve reset my phone, I wish to flash stock firmware or remove the root in any other way. I tried to do it via Super SU too and it won’t work that way either.
Hi mkchillin,
There are two stock firmware files for the AT&T LG G4. If one doesn’t work, please use the other one. If it still does not work, please make sure that the file was correctly downloaded on your computer (ensure that the file download didn’t get interrupted which can cause issues to the file).
Thanks!
Did not work. Cannot connect to server. Also, if you want to know what is going on, select the proper language so you can tell…
Hi Marc,
At what step does it say “Cannot connect to server”?
Let us know. Thanks!
I guess step 12. When it’s flashing, it comes back with cannot connect to server error. I’m going to try on a different computer this evening to see if that resolves it. -ML
Yes, please try it on another computer and see if it works. It should do. Thanks!
Tried from a different computer and got the same message and now my phone won’t power up.
Hi Marc,
Could you please let us know what variant of the LG G4 have you got? Did you choose the correct firmware for your device?
Let us know.
Thanks!
I have the TMobile version. I downloaded the correct firmware. My phone won’t power up now.
T-Mobile is GSM. Try selecting GSM and not CDMA during the guide.
Here is the error
My phone completed but it will not boot
worked fine for me on my tmobile g4. i got the same message but i just clicked ok and let it go on until it finished. It even came up not responding but it finished.
Thanks for reporting that it worked!
Np.. even though the program gave the error and even went into not responding, the phone still kept going, So it was all good on my end lol
i have the international varient of the lgg4 and i tried this method but mine also said that it could not connect and it never did anything plz help.
Hi Joseph,
If your computer can’t recognize your device, you’ve probably not installed the LG USB drivers on your computer. Please do so and then do the procedure and see if that works for you.
Let us know.
Sorry i wasent specific enough i meant the program wouldn’t connect my computer did recognize the lg.
The phone is unrooted, but is the bootloader locked too after this process?
Hi Florian,
The above procedure only unroots the phone and it doesn’t re-lock the bootloader because LG just doesn’t allow us to do that.
However, you can run the following command in Command Prompt Window and see your bootloader status – fastboot oem device-info
Thanks!
