How to Unroot the Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus

Where there’s a problem, there’s a solution. If you find your Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus to be buggy after you loaded some root-only apps or the custom ROM that you run on your device just doesn’t fulfil your needs, you can always return to the stock firmware and start everything from beginning. Usually, flashing a stock ROM solves most of the issues related with the software on your device.

For instance, if you have made some changes to the system files on your device thinking it’d increase the performance of your device, but you then realized that it had an inverse effect on the performance, you can just flash the stock firmware and everything will be back to what it was when you bought your device off the retail store. The procedure below should guide you on how you can download and flash a stock firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus and get it back to its original state.

I. Before You Begin

1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.

2. This should flash back the stock firmware on your device.

3. Please take a backup of all the files stored on your device, to be in the safe side.

4. This should only work for the SM-G901F variant of the device. Trying this on any other device may result in bricking the device.

5. Ensure you have the required drivers installed on your PC. If you haven’t, download and install the latest drivers from here.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download Odin and save it to your desktop.

3. When Odin launches, click on PDA and choose Stock Firmware available on your desktop. It’s the file that you extracted from the archive and not the archive itself.

4. Uncheck Repartition if it’s already checked in the Odin.

5. You can checkmark the boxes that say Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.

6. Turn off your device.

7. Turn your device back on by holding down Volume DOWN, Home, and Power buttons together.

8. Press Volume UP when you see a warning message on your screen. You’ll reboot into download mode.

9. Plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.

10. Click on Start in the Odin and let it flash the stock firmware on your device.

11. Once the firmware’s flashed, your device should automatically reboot.

12. You’re all done!

Congratulations! Your Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus is now unrooted and is running the official stock firmware. All the customizations that you may have done on your device are now lost. You can now start customizing your device from scratch, or just be stuck with what stock firmware has to offer you.
