How to Unroot the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
Whether you’re going to buy a new Android phone and just want to ditch your older Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, or you just want to unroot your device to get rid of the custom ROM that you feel is useless for you, this guide should help you.
As rooting provides you with a number of ways to customize your device, some users just go beyond the normal limit and do things that they aren’t supposed to do. For example, they just over-customize their device with lots of launchers that create lots of junk files, and often end-up modifying system files that lead to unresponsive behaviour of the device. There are a lot of things that one can do on a rooted device that may affect the behaviour of the device. For example, one can flash a custom kernel that claims to be increasing the performance of the device, but sometimes it just causes issues and doesn’t let you use your device properly.
Unrooting takes care of this for you. What this does is remove all of the customizations that you have made on your device and gives you the complete stock feeling. If there were any issues due to an app on your device, unrooting helps you remedy them. It also allows you to receive the official software updates that you normally don’t get on a custom ROM. This way, you’ll always receive the official software updates that patch bugs and bring new features for you to use.
So, here’s how to unroot your Sony Xperia Z3 Compact:
I. Before You Begin
1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.
2. This should flash the stock firmware on your device.
3. This should only work on Windows based PCs.
II. Downloading Required Files
1. Download Flashtool and save it to your desktop.
2. Download the stock firmware for your Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and save it to your desktop.
III. Unrooting the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
1. Double-click on Flashtool setup and follow the on-screen installation wizard.
2. Copy Stock Firmware from your desktop over to the firmwares folder located where you installed Flashtool.
3. Double-click on Flashtool icon and it should launch.
4. Click on Flash.
5. Select the firmware.
6. Click on OK.
7. Turn off your device.
8. Hold down Volume UP and plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.
9. The firmware should begin flashing.
10. When the tool’s done flashing the firmware, reboot your device.
11. You’re now unrooted!
Your Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is now unrooted and is running the official stock firmware.
Since you unlocked your bootloader while rooting your device, you may want to relock them as well. Here’s how you can do that:
IV. Relocking the Bootloader on the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
1. Launch Flashtool by double-clicking on its icon.
2. Click on the BLU button.
3. Power off your device.
4. Hold down Volume UP and plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.
5. Click on Relock.
6. And you’re done!
Congratulations! The bootloader on your device is now relocked to prevent flashing of any custom files on the device.
