How To Use Groups to Organize Your Contacts on a Windows Phone
An interesting feature in Windows Phone is the ability to organize your contacts into groups on the phone. Doing this allows not only for quick access to certain contacts within each group, but also allows you do only see facebook/twitter/linked in statuses and pictures for those particular people in each group. Here’s how to set them up.
I. Create a Group
1. Swipe to the left on the homescreen to reveal all apps on the right.
2. Scroll down and select the People app.
3. Swipe across the screen in the People app until you get to the All section that lists all of your contacts.
4. At the bottom of the screen select the + icon on the left.
5. Select New Group.
6. Type in a name for this group (Soccer Team, Family, Work, etc.)
7. Then tap Add a Contact.
8. Select a contact from your contact list to add them to the group.
9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until you have all the people you want in this group.
10. Select the icon at the bottom of the screen to save the group.
II. Editing a Group
1. Swipe to the left on the homescreen to reveal all apps on the right.
2. Scroll down and select the People app.
3. Swipe across the screen in the People app until you get to the All section that lists all of your contacts.
4. Select the group name you wish to edit.
5. Tap the pen icon at the bottom of the screen.
6. Tap any contacts name to edit their preferred email or phone number.
7. Tap any contacts name then tap Remove from Group to remove them from the Group.
8. Tap Add a Contact to add more contacts to the Group.
III. Using a Group
1. Firstly, you can tap the name of any group in the All section of the People app and then swipe left or right to see all of their status updates and pictures across the various networks.
2. You can also tap on their icon within the group to access their contact info, call, text, or reach out to them through Facebook, etc.
3. When looking at a group, tap the pin icon on the bottom of the screen to add this group to your Start screen. This will now work as a live tile and update you on their latest status updates.
4. When looking at a group, scroll down under the Group tab that displays all of the contacts’ icons and select Text to mass text everyone in the group with a mobile number saved or select Send Email to mass email everyone with an email address saved.
