How to Use Knock Code to Unlock the LG G3
There’s so many ways to unlock an Android device nowadays. You can enter a PIN code, you can enter a password, you can enter a pattern of slides, you can even unlock it with your face. But what if you also want to take a little anger out on the device every time you unlock it? LG’s got you covered on the new LG G3.
You can use Knock Code, as LG calls it, to unlock your device by using a series of knocks (taps?) in four different quadrants to form a pattern. Think of it like the secret knocking on a door to get into that late night speakeasy, but it gets you into Facebook and the like.
Here’s how to setup Knock Code and then use it on your LG G3:
1. Pull down the Notification Shade and tap the gear in the top right to get to Settings.
2. Tap Display.
3. Tap Lock Screen.
4. Tap Select Screen Lock.
5. Tap Knock Code.
6. Tap a combination of quarters between 3-8 times to set a knock code on the LG G3.
7. Tap Continue when you are satisfied with the code.
8. Reenter the knock code to confirm and hit Confirm.
9. Tap Next to begin setting up a backup pin.
10. Enter in a pin code to be used if you forget your knock code.
11. Confirm the backup pin.
12. Unlock the device by tapping on the lock screen.

I would still prefer pattern swipe. I guess a thief would find it difficult to figure out a knock code as taps are in the same places, but it takes too long to input a secure code (more than a few taps in one place)! Pattern lock is sucure providing you use an elaborate pattern & wipe the finger smudges off it when putting it to sleep (something many people forget to do).
Yeah. I don’t think I’d really use the knock code myself. Not just because of what you just mentioned hut also because it feels like it takes longer and more effort to unlock the phone. Rather just do a four digit pin which is hard enough to guess.
But it’s nice to see LG trying to be different at least.
