How to Use Siri to Recognize a Song in iOS 8

Don’t act like you don’t — everyone knows. Nobody wants to admit it, but we all talk to Siri. She’s pretty smart, and kind of funny, so why wouldn’t you chat with her, right? Hey, we get it. You can stop explaining yourself. In addition to all the normal weird stuff you ask her, Siri might even know what song is playing.

With iOS 8, Siri uses Shazam to query what music is playing. With the strength of Shazam, and the recognition engine that is Siri, you’re bound to find out what that catchy tune playing is. How do you do it, though? We’ll show you how!

1. Launch Siri

2. Ask Siri what song is playing. She’s going to take a minute and bend an ear to your speaker, so give it a minute.

3. If she knows – and she probably does — she’ll tell you all about it.

What?! Yeah! Siri knows quite a bit, and with Shazam backing her up, it’s only getting better.

If you look closely at that last screenshot above, you’ll see a “Buy” button. If you click that, you’ll be redirected to iTunes to buy the track. Keep in mind that it brings you right to the single, not the album.

There you have it — Siri knows everything, ever. She even knows the weird, funky, or downright terrible music you’re listening to. Remember, you can find out about songs you like, and those you don’t so you know which artists to avoid.
