Ice Cream Sandwich Ported Over to the Samsung Galaxy S, Still in Alpha Stage

Thanks to a group of dedicated developers, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) has now been ported to the Samsung Galaxy S. When we first heard that the Nexus S had ICS ported over, we knew it was merely a matter of time before the Galaxy S got the same treatment.

The SDK is currently in a “very-alpha” stage, which implies that not everything is fully functional. As to be expected not everything will be optimized for the hardware that its running on which results in lag time and crashes.

Despite the port’s flaws, we still give kudos to the responsible developers. XDA members galnet and lttldvl, well-known MIUI developers, are directing the port to the Samsung Galaxy S, stating that they’re “taking a break from MIUI over the weekend” and “thought they’d work on trying to port ICS over to the SGS.” Way to go guys. As Google has yet to release the source code, we would have been stuck waiting until after the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was officially released for the retail version.
