iCloud offers 5GB Free Storage Highlighting Photo Streaming and Storage for up to 20,000 Songs
Steve Jobs agreed that for Apple users the need to keep all devices in sync was a necessity. “We’ve got a great solution to this problem. We’re going to demote the PC and the Mac to just be a device. We’re going to move the digital hub, the center of your digital life, into the cloud.” Jobs continued to explain that the iCloud will store all your data content and push it to each of your devices. The process will be seamless to the user and will replace MobileMe.
The iCloud demo continued on to highlight the App store which will re-download all purchases and maintain them in sync across all devices. So, for example, if you purchase music on your iPhone it will simultaneously sync your iPod, and PC. This saves you the hassle of having to move everything over for each individual device. Importantly, everything will back up once daily to the cloud.
What we can all relate to is taking photos directly from our iPhone and having to go home and move them over to share them via the iPad or PC. Jobs acknowledged that the Photo Stream feature of the iCloud was his personal favorite. Snap a pic and it’s saved wirelessly to the cloud to be easily accessed from all your devices.
Wait, just when we thought this cloud demo couldn’t get any better, Apple confirmed it will be offering all users 5GB of storage for free, once upgraded to iOS 5. This should cover documents, mail, photos, and storage for up to 20,000 songs. You can find a developer beta available today and iTunes in the cloud will run on iOS 4.3.
