iOS App of the Day: Monsters Ate My Condo
If you miss playing old-school arcade or video games, then you might be hard-pressed to find something similar to fill the void in your nostalgic heart. I for one, have always been a fan of the bright funky colors and quirky music that accompanies those types of games and was absolutely stoked to discover the Monsters Ate My Condo game for iOS. Not only is the game free, but it provides the perfect trifecta: a weird story line, colorful graphics, and addictive game play. If you’re into feeding Monsters shiny condos and watching their powers grow, then read on to discover more about this insanely addictive game.
Pros:
- Free!
- Quirky story line makes for fun and addictive game play
- Feed four ravenous beasts: Boat Head, Reginald Starfire, Mr. Shigoto and Lord Ferocious
- Features both Endless and Time Attack modes
- Open Feint and Game Center support for leaderboards and achievements
- Universal app works on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad
- Retina-enhanced graphics for the new iPad
- Fully animated monsters to delight players, destroy civilization
- Increased resolution support for new iPad retina display
- Use intuitive swipe controls to match the colored floors
Cons:
- Super bright colors and flashing graphics might annoy sensitive eyes
How it works:
- Download the app
- To learn the game before playing for points, tap on “endless mode”
- Swipe left or right to move condos out of the tower
- Try to match 3 of the same color to form a combo
- Combos earn lots of points, straighten and stack the tower with shiny condos
- Try to match 3 shiny bronze condos
- Keep upgrading condos for more and more points
- After you are comfortable with swiping condos out-of-the-way, the app will introduce you to the Monsters
- The Monster names are Boat Head, Reginald Starfire, Mr Shigoto and Lord Ferocious
- Monsters eat condos, and you can feed them any condo you want
- Eating the same color condo (as the monster) makes them the happiest
- Too many of the wrong color condos and the monster gets mad
- Feed a shiny condo to a monster and this activates their power
- The higher the shiny value the longer the monster’s power will last
Conclusion:
Once you get past the extremely bright graphics and flashing colors you will start to fall in love with this app. The developers did a fantastic job by providing an an extensive tutorial (endless play mode), which most games do not include leaving you lost and frustrated. Here you can learn everything you need to know about the Monsters, power plays, and condo combos. Be prepared to stretch you brain muscles with this app, as you will have to be quick on your toes, or rather your swiping finger. Overall, I love the quirky story behind each Monster and find myself going to this app every time I have some time on my hands to kill. If you aren’t bothered by flashing colors (people prone to seizures need not apply), then hurry to the iTunes Store to download Monsters Ate My Condo while it’s still available for free.
