Microsoft and Google Reach Agreement to Co-Develop a Compliant YouTube App for Windows Phone 8

Before you applaud Microsoft for building their own ad-free YouTube app for Windows Phone 8,  it looks like your joy will be short lived. Multiple reports have streamed in today that confirm an agreement has been reached between Microsoft and Google to build an app that’s fully compliant with YouTube’s Terms of Service. Sadly, the arrangement does include enabling ads for the service. Can’t say we’re surprised about that one. Microsoft plans to replace the existing YouTube app in the Windows Phone Store with the old version until the compliant version is ready. The official statement can be found below:

Joint statement from Google and Microsoft

Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube’s API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks. Microsoft will replace the existing YouTube app in Windows Phone Store with the previous version during this time.
