Microsoft Prepping the Second Generation Surface Tablet, June Announcement On The Way
Most Microsoft Surface users consider their device to be the ideal tablet offering, and we tend to agree in the case of the Surface Pro. Sadly, Microsoft hasn’t seen this sentiment reflected in its sales report as only 1.5 million units have been sold of both the Surface Pro and Surface RT combined. This was only half of Microsoft’s original expectations of 3-4 million units, which leaves the company to take a cautious approach over promotions for its second-generation models.
Despite the lackluster sales, Digitimes is reporting that Microsoft is already deep into development of the second-generation Surface. Sources close to the project are now saying that the company will launch the device during this year’s Build Developer Conference on June 26th to 28th.
It appears that this second iteration device isn’t aiming to replace the current Surface lineup, but will offer a smaller display size between 7 to 9-inches. This seems to be in line with the growing demand of a smaller tablet. With June right around the corner, we’re sure to see more details emerge in the following weeks.
