More details on Sony S1 and S2 Honeycomb tablets emerge

News on Sony’s foray into the Android tablet market has been trickling in for a few months now and CNET was able to snag a few more details on both the S1 and S2.

According to its source, the S1 tablet will sport a 9.4-inch IPS display with TruBlack and Bravia technologies, DLNA/PS3 connectivity, and an infrared sensor.  It will be available in four variants, 16GB storage with WiFi only or with WiFi/3G and a 32GB storage version with WiFi only or with 3G/WiFi.  The 16GB of inbuilt storage should be sufficient for most users vying to buy the S1 but those with a larger appetite will find a full-sized SD card reader to further augment the memory space.  The dual-screened S2, on the other hand, will boast of 3G and WiFi connectivity with either 16 or 32GB of storage with no WiFi-only variants on the cards.

Details on pricing wasn’t revealed but the release date is rumored to be somewhere in early September, which puts it considerably behind other contenders in the current tablet race.  But with innovative touches like the dual displays on the S2 and the ability to control infrared-based devices, we’ll wait to see if Sony can pull it off and emerge a leader in the crowded tablet realm.
