Motorola debuts the XT531 Android smartphone
Motorola has announced a new handset in its budget-range segment, the XT531. The device has features on par with your average Android smartphone that won’t burn a hole in your pocket and comes with a noticeable change compared to Motorola’s previous Android offerings – no MotoBlur UI! In lieu of this is something called the Moto Switch, which from the mockups released during the press release, seems serviceable enough. Other major features include:
- Runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
- Dual-band HSDPA/Quad-band EDGE
- 3.5” HVGA display with capacitive multitouch
- 5MP camera with auto-focus and built-in flash
- Front-facing VGA camera for video call, chat and sharing
- Moto Switch UI allows users to shift to different modes
- 800MHz chipset with 512MB onboard memory
- MicroSD card slot expandable up to 32GB
- FM Radio with RDS support
- Wi-Fi b/g/n, e-compass, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, and aGPS
- 1540mAh battery, up to 8 hours of talk time and 28 days in standby in 3G mode
The device will be appearing on Southeast Asian shelves later this August with a staggered release in Europe and Latin America later on in the fall. As for its pricing and availability in the US, nothing was revealed and we’ll be here to tell you when they do.
