Motorola may unlock bootloader on its future Android devices

It took a hijacked poll on Facebook for Motorola to wake up and listen to the masses, and according to AusDroid, the company might go a lot more lax than previously on the locked bootloader issue.  This is how the company responded to an inquiring customer on the subject:

We completely understand the operator requirement for security to the end user, and as well, want to support the developer communities desire to use these products as a development platform. It is our intention to enable the unlockable/relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow it.

What’s clear is the fate of the previously released devices which will remain locked, but this step might bring back the ticked off customers the company starting losing, starting with the popular Milestone right up to uberfast Atrix.  Moto Android users buying newer handsets may finally have a chance to flash different ROMs instead of the limited way it is done as of now via Nandroid backups.  Still, this isn’t official yet, but AusDroid asserts that they have it straight from the horse’s mouth, which could ultimately turn out to be true.

    1. Cool i wasn’t trying to troll. Just kinda seemed odd. I know HTC will start locking down theirs as well. Which SUCKS, and Moto has said they’ll have have an unlock-able bootlaoder carrier dependent…. looks like i might have to migrate to Moto if that happens.
