Multitouch and Android 2.1 coming to all Android Phone Manufacturers Soon

Following the Nexus One update for pinch zooming, called Android 2.1-Update 1, Google has announced that they will be releasing this same update to all of the manufacturers of Android devices shortly. Now, this doesn’t mean that you can expect the update on your G1 within a week etc. it just means that Google is releasing the update to the manufacturers soon. It will still be up to the manufacturers when and if certain phones get this update (and let’s not forget that some of them have their own UIs on top of Android that would need to be updated before they sent out the update and who knows how long that could take).

But hey a glimmer of hope for the Android world at large, no?

  1. Google needs to rein Android in. With all these UIs on top of it & carriers deciding when and if some features get approved for use on their systems it’s leading to haves and have nots within the Android ecosystem.

  2. Can i Install this update on my HTC HERO GSM phone so that i can get android 2.1. I know that HTC is waiting till march for the android 2.1 update. Please let me know if this is possible.

    1. Sachin,

You can only updates that are meant for your phone. So you would need to wait for a custom ROM for the Hero that has 2.1. Do NOT load the Nexus One 2.1 ROM onto your Hero, cause you some serious headaches…
