New Android 2.2 / Froyo Build for Nexus One (FRF72)
Someone over at XDA leaked a new build of the Froyo update for Nexus Ones. This build is called FRF72 as opposed to the FRF50 that was first leaked for Nexus Ones a while ago. So if you have an unrooted Nexus One, you can download this update and install it. What the differences are, noone’s really sure yet but we’ll update this post with more info after we play with it for a bit… also check out AndroidPolice’s page for updates as well as he’s playing with it and trying to figure out new features as we speak.
UPDATE: Just noticed the file is only 2MBs or so, so probably not a lot of new things added. People think it might be a Flash or Browser update…
I. Before You Begin
1. YOU MUST HAVE UPDATED TO THE FRF50 Froyo build FIRST, then install this new one as it seems to be an update to that build not a full fledged ROM. If you haven’t done so here’s how:
How To Get Froyo on the Nexus One (Non Rooted Users)
2. For now this ONLY works on NON Rooted Nexus Ones. When there is a rooted update we will post it here for root users as well.
II. Download and Install
1. Download the update here:
2. Plug in your Nexus One and mount the SD card.
3. Save the update to the root of the sd card (do NOT extract it, leave it as update.zip)
4. Turn off the phone and turn it back on by holding down Volume Down and Power. Then select Recovery.
5. Non Rooted Users – Hit Volume Up and Power and the menu should come up, then scroll to apply update.zip and wait for it to finish flashing (no need to wipe data).
6. Once it is done flashing, click reboot and wait for it to reboot (takes a while to reboot the first time FYI).
Done! Post comments if you find any new features!
Still getting error –
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed.
This on a Nexus One running EPF30 build
I know what the problem is with your error Ray. Rename the file to update not update.zip. The .zip is automatically added on by the N1. That did the trick for me. Hope this helps.
i have the same problem and renaming the file dsnt work
I’ve search all over but there are currently no manual update available for EPF30 to any version of the froyo.
I’m on EPF30 as well 🙁
Very easy to install. Haven’t noticed any new features. Seems like its more of a stability update than anything. Google should be getting close to a final release.
UPDATE!!! I’m not sure if this was in 2.2 already or new with this update, but now you can long press the input (typing) box, and press select text, and it gives you a moveable cursor (triangle) to select certain text for copying, cutting, and pasting. Pretty awesome!!! Go Google!!!
Idk if it’s just me but the only change I’ve seen was with the wifi, which now doesn’t work on b nor g wifi anymore but only n. I realized this when I tried to connect to my girlfriend’s wifi, which it did but still could not surf the net. Also tried wifi in a local library and same result. Now for the “n” part which I happen to have, works as it should. Don’t know if it’s just me but you guys can check it out and see if this is a true change.
Any idea when the update will be available for rooted nexus ones?
So I have a ROOTED nexus one phone and I’m running a custom rom FRF50. I just got an update for my phone last night for android 2.2. My questions are can I update and install even though I’m running on a custom rom froyo or do I have to somehow UNROOT my phone first before I can update or install anything that google sends me OTA? Plz help someone thx…
Stylerebl,
You can update using the update your phone just got, BUT that will make you lose root. You are better off just loading a custom ROM with the latest official update in it (Like the Modaco one listed in our Downloads section). That way you get all the new update features (which by the way they are just security features from FRF50 up for the most part) PLUS you keep root access.
I have had a iPhone for the last 4 or 5 years and just switched to the Nexus One and don’t know a whole lot about Droid. But my question is (and might be a dumb one) but my Nexus is running 2.2 can I root it and if so what is the best to put on it at present and where can I find a easy step by step guide (for beginner)lol?
Johnnie5024,
Click on How Tos at the top of the site, then Android, then Nexus One. Follow the How To Root, then the How To Load a Custom ROM. Enjoy! Cyanogen’s ROM is my favorite at the moment 🙂
i can’t install it…some1 please help me
